Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

It was as good as anything I have had in Spain...maybe just a littler better! A perfect evening!! We where a happy and contented party of six on the patio for 3 hours!! The food and wine were fabulous as was the outstanding and entertaining service by our waiter, Gabe. The pace of the food coming from the kitchen was steady and the presentation, beautiful. The alachofas, "grilled jamon Serrano wrapped artichokes" and the duck queso fundido where amazing but the fork tender sirloin steak special was over the top!! Finished with great desserts and a glass of Gran Reserva Pedro Ximenez sherry. For me, as good as it gets.

We've been coming here regularly since Taberna opened but tonight, a Saturday night, they closed the restaurant to their regular customers because of a " private party". Well I guess I'll have to take my party elsewhere from now on. Just amazing that they don't care about their regular customers

My husband and I love to try new foods and true tapas are the perfect way to try more than one in a sitting. Taberna reviews and menu certainly got our attention. During the day prior to our dinner, several Santa Fe locals confirmed we should try it. Upon arrival we noticed the menu was somewhat different than we had read online. Our server explained that they try to source local as much as possible, so the menu has some changes every few weeks, which is fine with me. As can happen when eating in the southwest, greens can be hard to find so we started with the Taberna salad which topped with two very lightly breaded and fried avocado sections, roasted tomato section and artichoke section (there was only one of each, bummer as they amounted to one small bite apiece and We would have enjoyed a bite more) delicious tangy cheese, several slices of kalamata olives and a few pickled pink onions. It was lightly dressed which we both greatly appreciated. Following this delectable start, my meat only eating DH much to my surprise offered to try the Tuna Ceviche. Served in a tall glass, the ceviche mixed with finely diced cucumber and herbs, was accompanied by house made sweet potato chips that were tasty but a few were tough to chew, and a fabulously zingy ginger sauce. Put the ceviche and the sauce on the chip and the mix won raves from both of us. The further we delved into the glass of ceviche the more prominent the flavor of the lime juice. I would have enjoyed more of the lime at the top of the narrow glass. After dining deliciously lightly, we opted to try the BBQ pork belly with avocado crema. Our first foray into pork belly, the skewered slice covered in crispy grilled deliciousness melted in our mouths. The combination of the crema spiced with jalapeño I believe, and the tang of the grilled, BBQ pork belly left us satisfied but not stuffed. We finished off the great dinner with a glass of moscato. Service was what we expected at a tapas restaurant. We were allowed to eat slowly and not rushed. Our server was attentive but not over bearing. The three dishes took about 70 minutes from start to bill paid, which is what we were looking for.

Great! Imaginative list of tapas and good wine list. Good eat at bar crowd w excellent bartendress!

My Spanish husband and I have had our share of tapas both in the US and in Spain, and we were VERY disappointed by Taberna. Sure, tapas portions are typically small, but these were REALLY small, overpriced, and quite under-seasoned. I usually love pulpo (octopus), but I was very disappointed by the carpaccio. The portion was stingy and could have used some salt. Our truffle fries were also bland and not particularly hot/crispy (though I will say that the aioli was tasty). My white sangria was watery and weak. The service was fine, and the outdoor patio decently accommodated our large party, but seriously... Go to one of the many better restaurants in Santa Fe instead.

I usually love Taberna but had a less than stellar experience last night. Our server was attentive and right on the money with his wine suggestion. The issue was our food. First we were poured water that was warm and had to ask for ice. The chili cheese gratin with duck was good but the duck was kind of indistinguishable. The steak was good on the sampler platter. everything else was overcooked including the potatoes which were hard. The sausage and the ribs were overcooked. Contrasting was the pork belly on a skewer. It wasn't even warm in the middle. The waiter was very apologetic and offered to bring another. It took 15 minutes for it to come back after we had finished most of the meal. It was not a busy night with lots of empty tables.

Went here for a party, so I was able to sample many different tapas. All were delicious! The stand outs were the mushroom truffle flatbread, taquitos and pulled pork/ham open-faced sandwich. Their selection of cheeses were great. Yum! The sangria was a good compliment to all the food. Food was Spanish tapas meets New Mexico! There was a small stage inside. Would have been fun to see some live music there. Maybe next time!

My husband and I ate at Taberna last night mainly to catch the live music show. The location is perfect, beside the Washington Street parking garage (just outside the Lincoln Street elevator bank), free to park in the evenings and you can get there without getting out in the weather when it is bad. Very attractive venue, big outside seating area and comfortable inside area, attentive and friendly service. Our food was good, but expensive as tapas always are (two salads, two tapas, two desserts, and 3 drinks=$100 plus tip). Now for my criticisms. It was so loud in there that we had trouble hearing the vocalist sitting 6 feet away. To go to the bathroom, you have to walk through the beverage service area and dodge the swinging door into the kitchen. The thing that will keep me from wanting to return, however, was observing the staff member who resets the tables scrape at something in a saucer with his thumb, peer at it, and then proceed to place it on a table for the next diners to use. I had earlier watched him put his fingers all over the small plates when moving a set from one table to another. If it had been a slow night in there, I would have spoken to the manager and pointed the guy out. He does not belong in food service industry.

I visited Santa Fe this past weekend and Taberna was recommended by the hotel. I arrived 6pm on Friday night (happy hour 5-7) and enjoyed some delicious tapas and wine. I ordered one of the daily specials, sauteed brussel sprouts, which were delicious. I also had the serranitos (braised pork shoulder, jamón serrrano, poblano peppers, on baguette toasts) which were very tasty as well. The pork was tender and the flavors struck a nice balance. Taberna has an excellent selection of mostly Spanish wines. The atmosphere was bustling and charming with live Spanish guitar. I definitely recommend this little gem in Santa Fe.

Fun tapa experience. Lots of wonderful options. Amazing flavors. Blood orange sangria was so good. Service was a bit spotty but all in all would come back in a heart beat.

This place was written up in the May 2013 edition of Sunset Magazine, and for good reason. Whoever said this was a hidden gem was RIGHT. Wow. Classy. Top-notch service and pretty much the best tapas I have ever had. Keep in mind, this is not "New Mexico" mexican food, this is Spanish stuff here. They import certain cuts of meat from Spain. Yum. My companion has been to Spain multiple times and absolutely loved this place. Your water will be refilled, your drinks refreshed, your plates cleared, and you will not have to wait for the server to get around to getting your check. It will be ready for you before you have to ask. The service was top notch, the food even better, the atmosphere great. Go during their happy hour, when you can get some of the best dishes and drinks for half price. It is worth a stop and is a bit off the beaten path for a place like Santa Fe (it's around the back of other storefronts), but oh so worth it. Nice, intimate outdoor seating. Sure, there are always going to be food snobs out there who split hairs, but for Santa Fe this is pretty damn good and worth it. Do yourself a favor and do not miss this place.

We basically paid $60 for some shrimp, artichokes, and fries and it took them forever to get that out to us. The table was very unstable so every time something was put on our table the glasses would slide on the table. Although the staff was nice,I did not really enjoy that place. My mom and I could have gone somewhere else with better food for cheap with some what fast service. Never again.

Saved my hungry butt by being open later than most of the restaurants around. Extensive Tapas menu and Spanish wine list. Great place for a small group to share plates. Service was wonderfully attentive and kind. Fabulous Cava by the glass. Ignore the guy complaining about the wine markup, sorry that's standard across restaurants buddy. If you want to drink cheap, stay home.

Great food and awesome atmosphere. Our server was extremely friendly and the food was definitely worth what we paid for it. I was just passing through so I did not get to come back for a second round but I would definitely come here again if I was in Santa Fe!

I ordered the Tortitas: braised beef short ribs with slaw, blah blah blah. It was a couple of BBQ sandwiches. You don't fool me, chef. It was pretty lousy for 12 bucks. The staff was unpleasant to put it nicely. Actually the bartender was straight up rude and me and my friend overheard her complaining about customers loud and clear. She was cussing up a storm about some poor old man there. Never going to go here again. ever. period. Skip it.

Wife and I ate here tonight and had a delicious meal and excellent service out on their great patio. To wit, A glass of a nice fruity Reisling The Ensalada de Taberna, one of the best salads ever. Fried Avocado, strange sounding but delish, grilled artichoke, roasted tomatoes, kalamata olive halves, fresh greens, white cheese, some kind of vinagrette dressing, just killer Tacos De Racbalo, baramundi fish tacos, great stuffings but accompanied by a sauce too hot to eat. Wife picked at the fish and enjoyed it tho Tortitas, 2 small fresh rolls filled with tender, lean, tasty, short rib meat, pickled red onions and some chopped fresh jalopenas. Another killer good dish. Wife's dessert was vanilla bean ice cream with brandied cherries and sea salt caramel. Good but overly pricey I had Tres Leche cake drizzled with a mango sauce. Very good. All in all we'll definitely be back either here or at La Boca. A tad over 4 stars but not 5.

This has become my favorite (or at least one of the top three) restaurants in New Mexico. Usually me and my boyfriend go for Sunday lunch but this time we opted for dinner and what a wonderful experience!!! We had three different appetizers, all amazing, and then opted for two entrees which we split - again - delicious! I'm not going to list what we had because like any tapas restaurant, they change the menu often. Our server is EXCELLENT. Gabe has been our server every time we are there and he even knows which wine we prefer at this point. We trust him so much that we asked him to choose after dinner port for us and he did not disappoint. He picked the perfect port for both of us and ones that compliments all three desserts we sampled. The biggest and best surprise? We were greeted by the Chef Caruso and his executive chef. They gave us one of their cookbooks and signed it for us. I will keep coming back again and again. This is an AMAZING restaurant with interesting flavors, a nice vibe, good wine menu and live entertainment. What more could you ask for?

Creative food, and staff was eager to provide us with food that we would like. But you must like spicy food. Everything was very spicy. I knocked off a star because of the ridiculously tiny dessert. We ordered a chocolate tart to go, because we were too full to eat it immediately. Later, when we opened the box, my son laughed out loud! We had paid $9 for a tart so small that it barely amounted to 3-4 little bites. It was dwarfed by the box, like a small cookie, rolling around. What a rip-off!

What a find! Our restaurant concierge recommended La Boca - but said for a real treat go around back and find Taberna. He was right! We were greeted by Barbara who sat us at the bar table in the back where we had the best view of the live music! She remained attentive throughout the evening and really helped make our experience special. Our server recommended some amazing wines and a selection of small dishes that were unique and delicious. Topped off our evening with complimentary desserts. Really - we couldn't have had a better experience. Try this place if you are looking for a Santa Fe cuisine and service at its best!

Sadly, this review is about the last 45 seconds of a otherwise very pleasant experience. I had brought my husband up from Albuquerque to eat here and we loved it! So I couldn't wait to take my mother for a belated Mother's Day gift. We had a lovely time, food was delicious, service was great, atmosphere was lovely. Unfortunately, the waiter felt the need to explain the bill to me ( I was using a groupon) and remind me what the amount was that I was supposed to tip on, and then brought the bill BACK to me with the amounts circled and with and starred with arrows pointing to the amount on which I was to tip. I had already decided that I was going to give him DOUBLE what i was normal (20 on a 50 dollar ticket) because we loved the restaurant. I HATE being treated as if I am cheap or ignorant because I use a coupon that the restaurant offers. So if anyone at Taberna is reading this, please teach your servers how to act when it comes to this. It ruined the experience 100% and left a bad taste in my mouth.

Love Mr. Carruso's food, great little tapas, the Spanish wine selection is one of the best ones in Santa Fe, the service very professional. Little bit to crowded but fun.

I've had better for less. But I just spent a month in Spain. It's not bad...it's fine. There is little to no room in there and perhaps it was the holiday crazies that ruined our dinner...everything was served to the wrong people. We got things we didn't order, we ordered things we didn't get. Sort of a cluster of chaos. I met someone there for lunch a few weeks ago and sat at the bar and just enjoyed a glass of wine and a salad. It was much better, but why go to a tapas place for a glass of wine and a salad.

Great white ginger sangria. The seafood stew was great as were the artichokes. Yes, this place is pricy but yummy. We also had the beets, which were ok. The spinach was good. The cheese dessert with the apple tart was very good.

Great place! I ate at La Boca (the more formal restaurant around the corner run by the same chef) and then came across this one. It's a delightful place. The tapas are variations - but not too wild - on Spanish tapas and they have a great cheese list, as well as a very fine wine list, including by-the-glass. They have more substantial things, I believe, but a table full of tapas will probably be enough for anybody under NFL training level. Music was at a decent volume, meaning you could still talk to your table companions, and it was actually even possible to chat with people next to you if you wanted to do so (a popular Spanish activity). Service was very good. We had one dish that simply didn't work (some aged and inedible "baby artichokes") and they took it off the bill immediately. It's on my list for my next visit to Santa Fe!

  • Jane C.

The restaurant is located in the courtyard of an office building. We were shocked. Certainly no atmosphere nor Santa Fe feel. The food was absolutely inedible. Food tasted canned, not fresh, and very low quality. It was over priced, but most importantly tasted horrible, consistently every tapa was indescribably bad. Please don't waste your time going here with so many other beautiful options in Santa Fe.

"Even if I were given all of these ingredients I couldn't make these taste this good." That's what I said to my girlfriend after we got our order of artichoke hearts. I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. It is a tapas restaurant, so it's better to come with several people so you can share all the small plates. Like it's sister restaurant, La Boca, it is a little spendy. They had a nice selection of Spanish wines and live music (I think this only on weekends). This locations was started specifically as overflow for La Boca. They don't take reservations so the wait time can vary. Overall worth the wait and the money.

Taberna was recommended to us by our son. However, the food was under-seasoned. One dish overly sweet and needed some acid to overcome the overuse of honey. There was no salt on the table and the lack of seasoning could have been helped by some lemon or salt. I have eaten Latin food from numerous countries and this was very disappointing. Further, we overheard the staff calling customers who were tourists TOUR-RATS. This was unacceptable. Last, but not least, the place is completely pretentious.

  • Alan P.

Was there last night very disappointing portions martini prices are high I'm a gluten-free person and there were some choices for me if you remove it from the baguette two teeny drumsticks for $10.03 artichoke hearts were $14 went on a Groupon given to me as a present. Had chicken wings two of them for $10 they were teeny overprice beyond three artichoke hearts wrapped in bacon $14 they have to be kidding it was a meal that I got up and left still hungry we didn't even complete using the $40 on a Groupon the manager felt bad for our experience and did reduce the check by 50% I would recommend not going to this restaurant there a many choices in Santa Fe that don't rip you off the owner of this restaurant is too busy in Albuquerque New Mexico with the new restaurant one star disappointing avoid

It was just after Christmas and all the "Après-ski" types where out in force at Santa Fe's local restaurants but not this gem, Taberna -- poor babies. The service was attentive and helpful and the food a home run. I even spotted the chef/owner, checking things out.

Despite all the rave reviews for La Boca, I wasn't overly impressed with their food. It was pretty pricey, and I thought the Flamenco player was the best part. Therefore, I didn't have very high expectations for their sister restaurant, Taberna. I went here with some colleagues, and to be honest, I can't even remember anything that we ordered that was unforgettable. The Manchego Croquettes were pretty tasty, as were the fingerling potatoes. Being the only flesh eater, I ordered the chorizo "hot dog" to balance out all the veggies. It was ok. A little tough to eat. The bread was just a charred hot dog bun. The mustard definitely improved the overall flavor, as did the pickles. I do like the patio, though it sits in the middle of a business center. The waitstaff was very friendly. All in all, I don't think I would choose to eat here again. Santa Fe has so many damn good restaurants, that it's hard to pass up something that I like better for a mediocre meal.

Last minute, on Xmas Eve, we showed up and the host moved his own station so we could have a table. The tapas were succulent and the wine delicious. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. We had a lovely time and highly recommend this restaurant as well as La Boca, their sister restaurant which we could not get in.

This restaurant is one of the best in Santa Fe. Went for Mother's Day Brunch today and had Spanish sweet peppers stuffed w/crabmeat salad. The crab was perfectly seasoned and the small peppers cooked just right. My husband had the pork shoulder bocadillo sandwich w/ fig-green olive spread on homemade bun. Light, but hearty. I had the Spanish frittata w/ artichokes. spinach and romescue sauce. Delicioso and gluten-free! We had a truly fine waiter, Arturo, who cheerfully brought us an extra table so we'd have plenty of room for all our shared plates and wine. Last, a small chocolate ganache w/ whipped cream and homemade sugar cookie. Perfect! The service is welcoming and professional, a rarity in Santa Fe. Chef Caruso has created scrumptious menu w/ fresh ingredients that make guests feel glad they chose his restaurant. A lively and friendly atmosphere that makes you feel at home and beautifully fed.

Like many other reviewers, my husband and I felt like we were in Spain dining here. We actually ate here two nights of our 3 night stay in Santa Fe and we would be regulars if we lived here. We tried about 7 items and all were very good, several excellent. The wine was nice, services excellent and atmosphere lively and fun. We had Groupons, which was fantastic because for us it would be a little pricey (not over priced; just over our usual budget) without the Groupons but Santa Fe is pretty expensive so this is on-par with most restaurants. The qualify of ingredients and creativity was top notch.

What a great little wine bar off the beaten path in Santa Fe. They are located very near the plaza but tucked away in a corporate center, away from the throngs of tourists. We were here for lunch so I did not partake in any libations but nevertheless the food made it worth the trip. To start we had the green chili hummus which had a good kick to it but I would have preferred just regular hummus. It was served with some wonderful bread and lavosh. For my meal I ordered the Puerco bocadillo which was delicious. The pork was so tender and flavorful and I loved the green olive tapenade on top. It came with a "cup" (served like a shooter) of their daily gazpacho which happened to be watermelon. That was so deliciously refreshing. Just fantastic! They hubby ordered their hamburger and he said it was tasty, too but unfortunately the bun fell apart while he was eating it. The fries that came with the burger were really good, too. Service was great and I liked the ambiance they had going on. If we lived in the area, I would definitely return!

Big disappointment. Have been to Tapas Bars in Madrid Barcelona, London and in the US. This was the worst. Best of Santa Fe?? Huh? Food was blah. Wine was expensive and after one glass, they kept asking over and over if I wanted another glass...Yes but not a glass of Spanish wine for $13. A dozen tiny padron peppers for $9 is an insult. Maybe they should stop at the farmers market on Tuesdays and find a purveyor. In a town of neat restaurants this one is too full of itself to produce decent simple food at reasonable prices. It is a Tapas bar, no?

I have been a fan of La Taberna since it opened, but the other day I had a bad experience! First, we arrived 10 minutes before happy hour but the waitress neglected to let us know and put our more expensive order in, then told us about happy hour. Also, they changed the menu, which is what I liked about La Taberna. Their menu is now more expensive and not as tasty. The service was slow despite not too many people in the restaurant. Our last tapa was chicken, which was gravely undercooked, we had to send it back. Instead of giving us a nice happy hr discount, they comped a dessert that we didn't really want. We just wanted to leave at that point. It was just sad to have a bad experience in a restaurant I used to like. Maybe La Boca has it more on lock.

The sister restaurant to La Boca opened in late September. The space was billed as an event space to begin with, and I had planned an important birthday celebration to take place there. I began my search for a place for this party in April of 2012. At the time the GM put us on the books and said to contact her in July. When I did email in July I was told that she was leaving and there was a new GM, Michael, who would take care of the party. They did not want to plan an event that would be private for just food and alcohol consumption. They now wanted more than half of their expected night's revenue for us to have the space. When I booked this space it was empty and had just been taken over by La Boca. By October I was told that they were the hottest place in town and "they couldn't possibly do a private party when they brought in so much money on a Saturday night". This was 17 days prior to the party. There was no compassion or thought for my circumstances. I had 25 people coming to Santa Fe specifically for this event. They weren't willing to compromise. I did find a wonderful restaurant, Ristra, who couldn't have been nicer and more accomodating. Chef Eric was a delight to work with and they pulled off this party beautifully. Plus the food and wines were wonderful. I would caution anybody who is planning to have any kind of event at La Boca/Taberna to be sure to get a written, binding contract in hand.

Never going to go here again. ever. period. Skip it.

One of the most festive places in Santa Fe! We're younger than 50 and liked the spirit of this place. The wines were amazing and the two of us sat at the bar and were able to sample as many wine as we wanted. The tortilla de potata was surprisingly cold. My bf asked them to heat it up and while they normally don't do that, our server was nice enough to warm it up. The food is cooked, brought out, and it sits out until completely gone. Reminded me of Spain. Good vibe, very spirited, and super crowded. Worth the wait and the money. I will say it is much cheaper than La Boca, its sister restaurant. Do not go to Taberna if you're super hungry though. It is one of few places open late...that is until 11pm in Santa Fe.

They dont do brunch anymore... *** Taberna has become my go-to brunch place ~ The french toast serves much like a homing device for this NY-born pigeon, and I peck til every morsel is gone. As good as food is in Santa Fe, the one category they had a fail in was my favorite dish - & Taberna put a stop to that. On par with the best ever French Toasts of foodie NYC, this dulce de leche / orange blossom FT rocks hard and rocks well. Downright scrumptious! Morning staff is delightfully friendly and the coffee is superb and consistent.

Have been to tapas bars all over Spain. Taberna definitely compares very favorably with any of them. The plátanos con jamón are wonderful, great as dessert. Wine selection and service are top notch.

The best thing about this meal was my glass of sherry. The horno de queso was greasy and cold. The bread was a white dinner roll. Dinner companion ordered beets and got a big pile of them. She liked them okay but completely unremarkable and no presentation. This place is completely overrated.

One of the Very Best Brunch Spots in Santa Fe, NM Ambiance: relaxing, casual, upscale, hip, sunny, great Spanish music Service: excellent, attentive, friendly Food: Just about as good as it gets! The brunch dishes are creative, inspired, unique, works of visual and culinary art, fresh, vibrant, not very expensive and absolutely filling. We sampled two tapas items on the brunch menu as well as one larger dish. The first tapas dish was the "tortilla" (which has no relation to a New Mexican tortilla). It's described on Taberna's menu as a: spanish egg and potato torta. Think of an inspired cross between a frittata and quiche and you'll be in the ballpark. It is extremely tasty and filling. The second tapas dish was Piquillos con atun~ spanish sweet peppers stuffed with la boca tuna salad. Again, excellent: fresh, flavorful and not at all typical. It was most definitely not made with canned tuna. The larger dish was Hombro de cerdo~ braised pork shoulder and potato hash with eggs. This was one of the most beautiful plates I have ever seen. The vibrancy of its colors was energizing. It's taste was even better: a sublime combination of spicy heat, succulence and freshness. One of the best dishes we've ever tasted. We'll be back for dinner soon.

Keyword: Unremarkable. Having eaten in quite a few tapas bars in Chicago, and then Santa Fe, I can't quite fathom the four and five star reviews with this one, picky one that I am. Sister restaurant to La Boca, but supposedly less expensive, we paid what seemed the same price for less quality in comparison. Ambience: Unremarkable, either for Spanish or local flavor. I don't consider the ambience upscale, as another reviewer put it. Service: Unremarkable; not great, and not terrible (which is, perhaps, saying a lot for a Santa Fe restaurant). Food: Unremarkable. Save your dollars and time and wait until La Boca has a table for you. Taberna won't even bother to take your reservation.

I'm already a fan of La Boca, so a pleasure to lunch at their "new" offshoot. Food just as lovely (pulled pork sandwich & wine); wish I had time to return & try dinner. Great service, gorgeous patio.

When you have a severe gluten allergy that will cause a week's worth of distress if you're "glutened," you really vet your restaurants before you trust them. This is my third time at this place, and I trust them. Not only that, but the food is really a treat. The servers/chef are able to modify most (unless deep fried) of the choices to be g-free. But they don't have to rely on gluten to make things yummy. I've had their farmer's salad, beet salad, and the arugula salad. I've had the jamon seranno wrapped artichokes on pesto (delicious!), and the paella. The paella is served piping hot, shrimp cooked perfectly, really solid chorizo (toothsome and tasty). The desserts are to die for. The tapas are well-sized and good attention to flavor-layers and textures. Good service. Lively, fun music. Fun vibe. We go here when we want a special night out. We are picky, we're from Boston, so we know good food. This place delivers in food and service.

We were really looking forward to dinner here. The place was cute and the food was pretty good, but our big complaint is with their wine: the cheapest bottle on the menu was $42 and went up from there. What a ridiculously high starting point for a place that describes itself as a "tavern" for a "casual drinking and dining experience". Worse yet, that $42 bottle of wine we had (an Obalo Tempranillo) sells for about $11 on line! About 4 x's the market price. Outrageous. What a total rip off! Don't go here unless you enjoy being ripped off!

4.5 rounded to 5. This is a hidden gem, right around the corner from its sister restaurant La Boca (which was full on the Saturday evening we came by). I haven't had much Spanish food, so I am judging on flavor and not authenticity. The dishes across the board were tasty, even dessert, which is rare. After driving from Albuquerque for dinner, we had no complaints. The service was friendly, genuine, and attentive, and the ambiance is pleasant, despite being loud inside. - Watermelon and tomato salad: Unexpectedly fantastic! I rarely like a dish this much at first bite. The melon was wonderfully sweet, juicy, and balanced with the other ingredients; the feta was very light and the olive puree was on the side (perfect for a feta and olive-hater like me). - Cheese croquettes: A bit bland from the manchego, but perfectly fried and brought out at a good eating temperature. This was a nice touch after me having too many incidents of burnt tongue on broiling fried items... - Paella: Lovely flavor with well-cooked seafood and meat, but I was hoping for a crispy bottom. That and the dense, slightly biscuity bread are my only complaints. - Almond cake: Delicious with lovely strawberries and creme, even though I tend to dislike dense cakes. - Pot de creme: Plain, though well balanced with the whipped mascarpone (?) on top. The menu said chocolate-espresso, but we only tasted strong milk chocolate. Side note: The paella portion "for one" was huge, and we had a big box of leftovers. On the walk through town back to the car, a random young man with a hiking pack asked for our leftovers. Very strange, but he was polite and seemed like a backpacker instead of a bum. I hope he had a spoon and enjoyed it! (To be honest, I was sad at the loss of tomorrow's tasty lunch.)

Ouch, my stomach still really hurts after eating their beets during happy hour tonight. In fact for quite a few hours I was afraid I would throw up, so definitely had some food poisoning. I can't say I am that surprised though, while the place was very cute and came recommended, the service was pretty lackluster and all of the dishes our table ordered (tortilla espanol, beets, quail) were not good quality (quail was served burned to a crisp). Too bad as it ruined one of our last nights in SF as I had to skip dinner and return home to bed to recover.

This was our second visit to Taberna. First was in early August and food and service were good so we thought we would take a visiting friend to dinner. Several of the tapas were good, particularly the lamb, the tomato with goat cheese and the spinach. The beets were slightly undercooked and lacked flavor. The mussels were not up to the previous visits quality. But the real disappointment was the wine. When spending $14 or $15 for a glass of wine, it should be exceptional. The Grenache had been open for so many days it had absolutely no nose, it was dead. The Malbec had a musty bottle stink that did not dissipate and made it almost undrinkable. Unfortunately, after bringing the wine, our waiter disappeared for the rest of our meal so there was no way to let him know early. I brought it up when he reappeared at the end but he acted very indifferently. Just enough poor food and service that we will never return, not with so many other good choices in Santa Fe.

Currently visiting Santa Fe and decided to try out Taberna. The food was slightly above average but my experience was ruined by poor service. Service: Initially, it was okay. The waitress made a few good suggestions on the menu and food was brought out fairly quickly. However, I had to ask several times for water to be refilled. After trying out a few platters, I was still hungry and wanted to try a couple of additional tapas. I asked the waitress around 10:15 for the menu again so I could decide what to order. She never brought out the menu and I had to go find one myself. Then, when I finally placed the order before 10:30 pm, she comes back two minutes later stating that the kitchen closes at 10:30 pm. I told the waitress that I was upset and I was ready to order 15 minutes before. She begrudgingly put my order through to the kitchen but made it feel like a huge inconvenience. The restaurant closes at 11pm and I know the cooks want to leave, but this would not have been a problem if the waitress had been prompt in bringing out the menu and placing my order in a timely manner. Food: Overall, a bit above average. I had the seared tuna which was wonderful. The salmon stuffed with goat cheese and serranitos were okay - nothing spectacular. I also had a penne dish with spinach, mushrooms and garlic which was pretty good - could have just used a little bit more seasoning. Ambience: Nice, relaxing, cozy, good for a date. Overall, Taberna would have been a good meal but the service was lacking...

A local referred us as we had been eating so much we wanted light fare, the tapas was the ticket. Had no reservation, very tiny place, hard to wedge in-unbundle gloves and coats no place to put them. Not a place for kids. Food fresh -- disappointed that there was no combo platter whereby two could sample a variety. Price per tapa ranged from $12-26. The two pieces of salmon on baguettes, crab croquettes, meh but the wrapped artichokes and sauce yummy. The chocolate desserts divine, walked here, just look for The Bull Ring and you can spy this place down the stairs of the breeze way.

Fabulous time at this restaurant. Great tapas, high-class ambiance without high-class prices. Wait staff elegant and professional. Love the ties and classy dresses!! Amazed to find live jazz, with a great singer and terrific band on a Wednesday night--- with no cover!!! What a find in Santa Fe! Keep it up, Taberna!!!

Perfect gem! My best friend and I searched out Taberna based on the recommendation of a local foodie we met at Whole Foods. Are we glad that we did! We stopped in for lunch and sat on the lovely patio. The wait staff was very attentive without hovering over us. We decided on the 3 course lunch menu. My friend started with the arugula salad and I with the watermelon-heirloom tomato salad. Both were light, fresh and delicious. For our pintxos we chose the mejillones (steamed mussels in romesco) and alcachofas (grilled artichokes wrapped in Serrano ham). The mussels were tender, flavorful and delicious. The real star was the artichokes - truly delicious and memorable. For our deserts we both ordered the crema catalana. The custard was rich, velvety and included the vanilla seeds. The crème caramel was perfectly caramelized, sweet and crunchy. My friend ordered the sangria and I had the ginger peach sangria. Both were delicious and perfect with the food we ordered. The price for the 3 course lunch was very reasonable considering Santa Fe can be a pricy place to eat. The 3 course selection also gained us a 10% discount on any glass or bottle of wine, which was a nice addition. We had a lovely meal on the patio and quite enjoyed the experience. We are both of Spanish descent from old New Mexico families. While we both love NM cuisine and have had tapas many times before, we consider this to be one of the best experiences and values to be found in Santa Fe. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try!

Went here for a party, so I was able to sample many different tapas. All were delicious! The stand outs were the mushroom truffle flatbread, taquitos and pulled pork/ham open-faced sandwich. Their selection of cheeses were great. Yum! The sangria was a good compliment to all the food. Food was Spanish tapas meets New Mexico! There was a small stage inside. Would have been fun to see some live music there. Maybe next time!

I loved everything about this restaurant - the food, the service, the ambiance! I came here on a Friday and they had a live Spanish guitarist playing. It felt so romantic and pretty on the warm summer evening. The food was absolutely fantastic. We had the following: Octopus carpaccio Jamon wrapped artichokes Steamed mussels Seared scallop over crab cake - This was my favorite dish of the night. The flavors of the scallop & crab cake were perfect together. They have a very long list of tapas so it was difficult to narrow it down. I will definitely come back again soon to try some more dishes.

My husband and I stopped in Santa Fe on our way to Telluride in July and had dinner at Taberna. We have been to La Boca before so my expectations were high for Taberna. Dinner not only met but exceeded our expectations. We had trouble finding the restaurant and ended up walking down an alley where we ran into Chef Caruso. We obviously looked lost and told him we were looking for his restaurant. (I think he got a good chuckle from the situation as did we). He was so kind and pointed to the back door and told us to enter through the kitchen; now that's customer service! We had a wonderful cheese plate along with wine at the bar while we waited for a table....we had not made reservations. For dinner we shared 3 tapas: pulpo (braised octopus carpaccio), grilled pork belly and queso fundido with duck barbacoa. The pulpo was sliced very thin and was so fresh with a nice citrus seasoning. The pork belly had a great crust and a rich fatty flavor. The queso fundido was not gooey or stringy but instead a beautiful cheese blend with yummy duck - Total "food Heaven". The selection of wines was nice as well; we like our reds a little cool instead of room temperature and they were happy to chill our glasses. Chef Caruso and his staff are all unbelievably kind and courteous making the service as well as the food stellar. If your in Santa Fe don't miss visiting Taberna....just don't get lost in the alley.:)

Started off my 'girl's trip' vacation on Friday , could not get into the restaurant without a reservation. Made a reservation for the next evening , later on that day we found out they were 'revamping' the menu , still tapas - but Nuevo Latin. We hoped the change would still live up to our expectations. Let me say , the whole experience was outstanding. The restaurant was buzzing , they had a 3 piece Cuban band , the staff were attentive even though the place was very busy. Our server Gabe was great with wine recommendations and making sure were were happy. The grilled artichokes with pancetta , the pork belly and seafood soup were great. What a special part of our trip.

This place was delicious. I have been to Spain, though not Spanish, and have had real Spanish tapas many times. This place definitely made me feel like I was back in Spain ordering the real thing. I went with two other people, and between us we ordered 10 items off the menu. Every single one was incredible, but I would highly recommend the watermelon salad and the salmon wrapped asparagus. If you are in Santa Fe, stop here and eat.

Sister restaurant of the hard-to-book Boca, and just as good. Octopus carpaccio was beautifully spread across the plate, very fresh, tender (not always the case with this critter) and -- with the lemon that I requisitioned -- lovely. My wife's sea bass was also nicely presented, and delicious, while my chicken mole would have been fine but for the overly sweet sauce. Yes, dark chocolate is an ingredient, but, no, it shouldn't be discernibly sweet. Couldn't finish it. Damn good 3 milks cake, for sure! Would certainly eat here again.

OMG where do I start? My husband and I were staying at Ojos Caliente resort and went to 10000 waves to check it out.on our way back to our room we decided to stop in Santa Fe for dinner. We parked to check yelp for a place that was walking distance and offered light fare. We found La Boca ( same chef -Jose/Kiko ) at Taberna) and were delightfully impressed with tapas and wines. We came back a second time. Then we tied Taberna! The photos cannot tell you how awesome EVERYTHING was. The octopus was really one of the best things I have ever tasted! No exaggeration. And I thought I didn't like octopus . We hade a lot of great meals in Santa Fe but So many restaurants are doing the same thing. Jose at La Boca/Taberna is innovative and different and oh so good. Don't miss either on of these places if your in Santa Fe. You not be disappointed.

My fiancé and I absolutely adore this restaurant. We only recently discovered it via Groupon and have since been back twice! We've always been seated right away, reservation or not. (I think the place gets pretty packed on the weekends, so I suggest a reservation then.) We had eaten a couple time at Chef James' new restaurant Mas Y Tapas in Albuquerque and heard wonderful things from friends about Taberna so were thrilled with the Groupon opportunity to try out this restaurant at a discount. We really lived it up. We sampled a few wines and thought we had decided on a Spanish wine until we read more about the sherry offerings. Sherry is not something you naturally think of when looking for an alcoholic beverage to pair with your meal but at Taberna, they suggest one for each course! We were excited to try something new and were pleased that we did. The server suggested two different sherries to go with two different courses--surprisingly delicious! (Sherry can be a bit heavy though in my opinion, so I personally suggest doing one glass as a starter than switching to wine). I highly highly suggest the paella. It is so incredibly delicious. The small plate is more than enough for one person and I can only imagine that the larger portion is enough for an entire meal for two with maybe one or two tapas. Other delicious offerings (their special change daily) include the braised pork cheeks with a carrot date caramel sauce (YUM!!), the Taberna truffle fries and the alcachofas--grilled artichoke hearts with pesto and goat cheese wrapped in ham. The only thing we have tried and did not like was the coca de Taberna which is a mushroom flatbread--too much bread. I highly suggest trying out this intimate restaurant off the Santa Fe plaza!

Never going to go here again. ever. period. Skip it.

Terrific tapas place. Loved the artichoke dish and the gambas. Great service from Gabe who helped us choose several Basque wines. There happened to be a really fine blues guitar player/singer which added to a super evening.

We've been coming here regularly since Taberna opened but tonight, a Saturday night, they closed the restaurant to their regular customers because of a " private party". Well I guess I'll have to take my party elsewhere from now on. Just amazing that they don't care about their regular customers

The best thing about this meal was my glass of sherry. The horno de queso was greasy and cold. The bread was a white dinner roll. Dinner companion ordered beets and got a big pile of them. She liked them okay but completely unremarkable and no presentation. This place is completely overrated.

Terrific tapas place. Loved the artichoke dish and the gambas. Great service from Gabe who helped us choose several Basque wines. There happened to be a really fine blues guitar player/singer which added to a super evening.

We've been coming here regularly since Taberna opened but tonight, a Saturday night, they closed the restaurant to their regular customers because of a " private party". Well I guess I'll have to take my party elsewhere from now on. Just amazing that they don't care about their regular customers

Great tapas...reduced prices during happy hour sweetens the deal! Lovely patio seating!

Michael was busy opening Taberna and couldn't deal with me and my party until October. The party was to be for October 20th. When we finally connected to plan the menu the rules had changed.
